Artist Gerald Haessig holds a degree in communications, but after 14 years working in local TV news, he transitioned to a full-time art career in 1999.


A skilled artist working in glass, clay, and metal, Haessig has received multiple Alpha Awards for his creations and has been juried into the American Craft Council's Southeast Regional "Spotlight" artist showcases. He has been commissioned to design exclusive jewelry for organizations such as the Historic New Orleans Collection, Save Our Cemeteries, and the Louisiana Garden Club Federation. Haessig also created silver medallions for the Mayor's Arts Award and was invited to submit designs for a new key to the city of New Orleans.


Haessig’s multidisciplinary approach to the decorative arts is characterized by the creation of beautiful works that stand out within their respective mediums or share a common theme across different forms.


In 2015, Haessig was awarded a design patent from the USPTO for Café-ERGO, a line of hand-specific drinking vessels. Since their debut, these cups have garnered recognition, including a Bronze award from the International Design Awards, an Honorable Mention from Fast Company Magazine, an Honorable Mention from the European Design Awards, and a Bronze award from the Grand Prix du Design. In 2010, Haessig was commissioned by Brock Elementary School in Slidell, Louisiana, to create his signature "Silveramic"™ vessel to commemorate First Lady Michelle Obama’s visit to the school. and in 2005 he designed a collecton of jewelry for the Historic New Orleans Collection in which First Lady Laura Bush was presented with a piece from the collection.


Haessig has appeared on HGTV’s Crafters Coast to Coast and has been featured in Studio PMC, a quarterly publication showcasing the technique he developed for fusing pure silver onto raku-fired pottery. He is also a member of the Louisiana Craft Guild, a statewide organization dedicated to promoting fine craft by Louisiana artists.
